A Collection of Stories - Audio Book
Synopsis
The audio book mirrors the English content of the book editions of Strange Fruit. A Collection of Stories Narrated in English by the author Anne Murphy
“Sample these narratives of Irish life and you’ll ask for more. My favourite ‘Moving’, a vivid portrayal of a dying breed, a range that comforts body and soul, a parquet floor getting its final coat of polish, all fond resonances of my own childhood… Savour the suspense of each tale relieved with a twist that touches a nerve, usually the one that makes us smile. The writer is smart, funny and gets to the nub of things… JERRY GARDNER– PAPERBAGWRITERS

Review by Tess Felder reads
"Never judge a book by the cover-well this time I did, and once again my first impression proved right. With it’s humorous dedication, it’s breathtaking art illustrations in chalk and it’s personal touch, it looks like a gem to me. This local author has obviously had a wealth of experience, if indeed her poems are autobiographical and I suspect they are. The first poem ‘That’s Life’ strikes a chord for any of us who have loved and lost. It captures a depth of emotion and does so discreetly. ‘Skin Deep’ is a touching and controversial look at why w omen obsess about appearance. Who is it that I’m trying to ape? Why this discomfort with my shape? Could it be that my self- image doesn’t measure up enough? Should I be made of stronger stuff? The book has some interesting philosophical and psychological insights. But if you want to be entertained, take a look at ‘Driving Ms Daisy Crazy’. It highlights that it’s not worth it to play coy as the poet wakes up to the fact that ‘Hey – This is the 21st century!’ It’s quite a mix of rap, romance, worldly experiences and profiles of her children. This gem of a book is witty, warm and definitely worth getting hold of. Has it a gender bias? Quite the opposite indeed, I think men will just as readily find this writer witty warm and who knows what else".
